Prince Harry announced that his tell-all memoir is coming out at the beginning of next year, and his announcement directed much attention to him and to the royal family in general. Mark Palmer slams Prince Harry saying that he needs to stop complaining as he is literally born with a silver spoon and his biggest weight in life is being the ‘Spare’.
Since the publisher of the book emphasizes that the book is a reflection of the struggles that Prince Harry went through during his life in the UK, we get the notion that the book will be as controversial as it can get.
The title of the book on which Prince Harry decided just adds to the controversy surrounding it. While in English it is simply ‘Spare’, the translations of the book sport much worse names. In Spain, they will get the book under the name ‘In the Shadows’, and other regions will get it under the name ‘Leftover’ and ‘Reservist’.
Mark Palmer Destroys Prince Harry In A New Article He Dedicated To Him – Please Stop Whingeing Harry, It’s Great To Be The Spare!
Mark Palmer is the younger brother of Adrian Palmer, a Lord who seats as a cross-bencher in the House of Lords. Despite being in the same situation as Prince Harry, Mark Palmer didn’t whine about it and made something of his life. He suggests that Prince Harry should do the same thing. He should stop complaining about something as bizarre as ‘being a spare’.
“Like you, I have a brother, in my case born three years before me. His name is Adrian and he was always the heir.” – Mark Palmer started his article. “He inherited the title, Lord Palmer, some 30 years ago, and sits as a cross-bencher in the House of Lords.”
“As far as I can gather, my brother receives about £300 a day just for turning up at the House of Lords and has the support of a secretary in the Palace of Westminster paid for out of the public purse. He’s a hereditary peer, who fellow hereditaries who avoided the chop when Tony Blair was prime minister.” – Mark Palmer continued. “And I’m the spare. Or, at least, I was until Adrian had two sons (plus a daughter) of his own.”
Mark Palmer continues by pointing out that Prince Harry never accepted the fact that life has dealt a pair of cards to him, and he needs to live with it. Palmer points out that he never felt downgraded because he was the ‘spare’. Quite on the contrary he never stopped seeking opportunities that opened to him – that his brother didn’t have.
“Being the spare gave me freedom my brother never had. I was able to become a journalist. And am now this paper’s travel editor, lucky enough to travel far and wide.” – Mark Palmer explained. He made a correlation with Prince Harry’s joining the army, while his brother couldn’t. He mentioned moving to California – which his brother also couldn’t do.
The journalist reflected on the fact that for a long time, Prince Harry was the favorite Prince of the British nation. He told DailyMail how Prince Harry’s character once put him in the hearts of the people. They liked that he was a down-to-earth and happy character. However, in Mark Palmer’s eyes, all of this changed when Meghan Markle came and ‘captured’ Prince Harry’s heart.
The Palmer ‘spare’ continues to speak as one of the British people. In the text, he refers to him as a regular British citizen. He spoke in the name of all the British people and said they accepted Meghan Markle for what she was. They never took into consideration that she was coming from a mixed-race family.
Palmer even claims that he did not judge when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show. He says that the only thing that mattered to him was that the young Prince was happy. And he certainly looked happy. However, now, he claims that all that somehow changed. He even mentions a poll from just days ago, showing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle only above the sexual abuser Prince Andrew. The author referred to Prince Andrew as a ‘friend of a serial pedophile’.
“Spares who constantly complain about their lives can swiftly fall from public favour.” – he told Prince Harry.
“Your general demeanor is not helping your cause. It smacks of ‘poor me’: as if you have suffered as a result of having an elder sibling. As if you’ve had to live off scraps. But you haven’t.” – Mark Palmer slammed Prince Harry. Unlike many second-borns, you never had to rely on hand-me-downs from your big brother. You were never deprived of a top-notch education because your parents couldn’t quite afford two sets of school fees. Instead, you made your own future within the structures of royal life. You discovered huge success with programs such as the Invictus Games. Then you ‘found freedom’ altogether, thousands of miles away in Montecito.” – Mark Palmer continued his rant about Prince Harry.
“So, stop dwelling on the negatives and continually recounting your grievances. Consider how fortunate you have been.” – he advised him. “You might indeed have been the ‘spare’. But they never spared you from all the privileges that came with being third-in-line to the throne. So, for goodness sake, snap out of it — and spare us all the moaning about being a spare. If you’ll let me be frank, your book’s title is at best misguiding. At worst downright insulting to all us ‘spares’ — who’ve found a curious comfort in coming second.”
The article is an honest opinion coming from a person that is in a similar situation as Prince Harry. Quite frankly, it is the same opinion that most of the Royal fans have. While Prince Harry whines and complains about how his relatives downgrade and push him aside – he is nothing less than a PRINCE. A thing that most of us will never be. Also, he enjoys things that most of the ‘common people’ never will.
