Prince Harry confessed to being embarrassed when introducing Meghan Markle to his home, Nottingham Cottage, and said that his then-future spouse compared the place to a college dorm.
Prince Harry Recalls Meghan Being Unimpressed With His House-‘She Said Something About A Frat House’
In his newly-released book Spare, the Duke of Sussex, 38, conceded that his London residence – where he stayed for six years – was no grand estate.
Despite Harry’s eagerness to show Meghan his living space soon after they began dating in 2016, he felt anxious that the two-bedroom cottage would not measure up.
In his book, Harry wrote: “I was excited to welcome Meg to my home, but also embarrassed. Nott Cott was no palace. Nott Cott was palace adjacent – that was the best you could say for it.”
When Meghan walked up the pathway to his house, Harry remarked that he felt a sense of comfort that she showed no signs of discontent.
But once she stepped in, he noticed the low ceilings of his cottage and how inauspicious the furnishings were – particularly with the beanbag chair that matched his brown sofa, which apparently didn’t impress her.
Harry added: “Then she said something about a frat house.” When Meghan first moved in with Harry, he remembers them buying a few Ikea lights and a pre-owned couch from sofa.com that was paid for using Meghan’s credit card.
Later on, he talks about the time he was invited for tea at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s home and was ashamed of how humble his cottage was compared to their “museum-like” residence.
The fans on social media slammed Harry’s remarks. A large number of people took aim at the fact that the Duke of Sussex was complaining about first-world problems.
One person wrote: “Maybe he should have had a walk around the local council estates in London to see how well he lives.”
