The legal battle between actor and director Justin Baldoni and actress Blake Lively continues to escalate. Just a week after Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment, a smear campaign, and emotional distress, Baldoni’s legal team has announced plans to file a countersuit, promising “shocking” revelations that will challenge Lively’s narrative.
“I am not going to speak to when or how many lawsuits we are filing but when we file our first lawsuit, it is going to shock everyone who has been manipulated into believing a demonstrably false narrative,” Bryan Freedman, Baldoni’s attorney, stated in a statement to Deadline. “It will be supported by real evidence and tell the true story. In over 30 years of practicing, I have never seen this level of unethical behavior intentionally fueled through media manipulation. It reminds me of what NBC tried to do to Megyn Kelly and Gabrielle Union, and we all know how that ended up. Standby.”
Freedman’s statement suggests that Baldoni’s countersuit will allege that Lively’s public relations team orchestrated a smear campaign against him, manipulating media narratives and planting stories to damage his reputation.
However, Lively’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, has vehemently denied these allegations. In a statement to Deadline, Sloane refuted claims that she originated press stories about HR complaints on the set of “It Ends With Us,” the film directed by Baldoni where Lively starred.
“I was contacted on 8/11 by Sara Nathan (Melissa Nathan’s sister) forwarding an anonymous tip that Page Six received, regarding allegations of HR complaints on the set of ‘It Ends With Us,'” Sloane stated. “After that, I was contacted by various press outlets asking about allegations of HR complaints. When contacted, I responded to press questions by referring them to Wayfarer or Sony for information regarding HR complaints.”
Sloane emphasized that Lively’s lawsuit, along with the complaint filed by Jonesworks LLC and Stephanie Jones, provides detailed evidence to support her claims against Baldoni.
The legal battle between Lively and Baldoni has already had significant consequences for the director. He has been dropped by his talent agency, and a recent award he was honored with was rescinded. Furthermore, his co-host on the podcast “Man Enough” has also parted ways with the show.
Meanwhile, Lively has received an outpouring of support from fellow celebrities, including several of her “It Ends With Us” co-stars.
As this legal battle unfolds, it raises important questions about the power dynamics in Hollywood, the impact of public relations campaigns, and the importance of due process in addressing serious allegations. The coming weeks and months will undoubtedly bring further developments in this high-profile legal drama.
