Paradox Interactive is expanding its operations via a new studio in Barcelona. The new studio—Paradox Tinto—marks the developer’s seventh studio. Heading up Paradox Tinto is Johan Andersson. He is best known for creating the Europa Universalis series and has worked for Paradox Interactive for years. Most of his work took place with the Development Studio wing.
It appears that the studio will be working on Europa Universalis IV before moving on to new titles. After that, the Barcelona studio will start work on future titles but still stick within what brought Paradox Interactive to the dance: grand strategy.
Barcelona Is The Home Of A New Paradox Interactive Studio
Paradox Interactive works in other genres sometimes but the studio’s path is set and having Andersson head things up with the new studio is a good start. Plus, Tinto is working on a project that Andersson and his core team are familiar with. COO of Paradox Interactive, Charlotta Nilsson said that the studio would focus squarely on grand strategy.
Nilsson was also pleased with the success the developer has seen and notes that it goes a long way towards expanding the company and putting out stronger games.
In speaking about the new studio Johan Andersson said:
“I am excited and grateful for this opportunity to build up a new studio in a new location, putting the knowledge accumulated through the decades of building games and development studios into good use. My goal is to assemble a team and create a fully functional studio to keep on developing the Europa Universalis brand, and later design and develop new grand strategy games.”
The Game Plan For 2020
Nilsson noted that the team size goal for 2020 was around 200 people. At the moment, there are “around 70 open positions across our seven studios.” No further plans to establish more studios the year have been announced by Paradox Interactive. The focus is purely on its current games, upcoming games, and building the Tinto studio.
So far, the company has three studios in Sweden, two in the U.S, one in the Netherlands, and now a new studio in Spain. The publisher has been around since 1999 with their first title under the Paradox Interactive banner being the flight combat game Airfix Dogfighter in 2000.
That same year, the publisher would release the first game in two franchises that would contribute heavily to establishing the company: Europa Universalis and Majesty.
