Every year, Activision drops the new Call of Duty by one of their two, sometimes three, developers. Each year, some people love it while some people hate it.

Through all of this, some things stay the same. At the very core of the game are tight mechanics and very fast pace action.

Because of the sameness of every game and of every FPS game, there are two things at the very core of what makes you a good PVP player. Today, we are going to look at one of these factors and how to use it to your advantage.

The Basics of Call of Duty

If you’ve ever seen a tips video, you see many different guns and load-outs that people use that they claim can make you a much better player.

What you don’t take into account when looking at these videos is that these players are much better than you and I are. Simple fact.

One of the things that you can do to close that skill gap is to learn more about the different maps the game has to offer.

Where Are They Shooting Me From?

When learning more about a map, varying degrees of these can happen. Go into a private match by yourself and look around.

Find cool shooting spots, the long lines of site where you can get sniped from, and look for places around corners where someone will likely be waiting for you.

Secondly, play the game. When you get into maps, keep a mental note of where a person was when they killed you. These are usually normal camping or head glitching spots.

Last, listen to what footsteps sound like. There is a difference between running on a metal ground, sand, and tall grass. On many headsets, it’s directional.

If you are standing outside and hear metal footsteps from somewhere, you may remember that there is a building with a metal floor to your right, so you can turn and get the drop on the enemy.

    Using This New Map Knowledge

When you have all of your information in your head, now you have to put it into action in-game.

Depending on your playstyle, know where the cover is. Remember where there may be people when you run around the corner.

Do a quick glance at these spots to make sure no one is hiding there. Unless you know for sure, always assume that when there is one enemy, that there is at least one more around.
