The official announcement regarding the players that will make up the Team of the Year is set to be announced on Friday afternoon. However, the news of one star’s inclusion has already been made official.
Manchester City’s official Twitter page couldn’t resist getting ahead of the release, and announced that Kevin De Bruyne was among the stars that had been included in this season’s selection.
Few will be able to argue against the midfielder’s inclusion, as he has been one of the standout players in Europe.
FIFA 21 News: De Bruyne’s Third Award
The nomination into the TOTY for De Bruyne means that he has now been included in three consecutive Team of the Year’s. His first nomination came in FIFA 19, before he was also awarded a place in the team last year.
It would be no surprise to many that he was included in the team, as he was among the players that was regularly featured in the teams picked by celebrities over the past couple of weeks.
The only concern for De Bruyne from the previous 12 months would have been the fact that he wasn’t able to get his hands back on the Premier League title.
Manchester City were only able to win the League Cup last season, as they were knocked out of the latter stages in both the FA Cup and Champions League.
His form this season has been excellent so far, as he has scored three goals and made ten assists in 17 games. However, the news of his inclusion came just hours after it was announced by Pep Guardiola that the Belgium international could be missing for up to six weeks with injury.
FIFA 21 News: Rumours Indicate Messi And Ronaldo Miss Out
Latest rumours have also indicated that there could be two shocking omissions from the TOTY this season, as both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo look set to miss out.
Both superstars have been regularly featured in the teams over the past couple of years, but the latest leak from EA has shown that only players from four teams will be making up the TOTY.
Two clubs that weren’t included in that leak were Barcelona and Juventus. The teams that were fortunate enough to make the list were Manchester City, Liverpool, PSG and Real Madrid.
That could lead to the conclusion that Kyliann Mbappe and Neymar could both be set to get a place in the team ahead of Ronaldo and Messi. An official announcement will be made on Friday afternoon.
