In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle participated in their final royal engagement on Commonwealth Day before leaving their roles as senior members of the royal family to start a new life in North America.
Harry Was In Tears During Last Royal Engagement- Says Robert Lacey
During the event, they joined other members of the royal family, and the strained relationship between them became evident. As per the book, Battle of Brothers, it was observed that Harry was trying hard to hold back his tears.
About 2,000 programs were given out before the event. According to the Daily Mail, Harry and Meghan were not included in the procession, and the reason for their exclusion was reportedly due to their emotional sensitivity towards the situation.
Prince William and Kate Middleton allegedly chose not to participate in the procession, which went against what was written in the orders of service, in an effort to address the problem.
In his book, Robert Lacey said: “Throughout the service, Meghan megawatted away with her best TV smile but, as the ceremony progressed, Harry appeared to grow gloomier.
“According to one observer, ‘his accelerated blinking even suggested he might have been fighting back tears.” In the Netflix series released at the end of last year, Harry revealed his emotions during the service he attended with Meghan.
The service was significant as it was the first time they met many family members after spending Christmas in Canada, and news of their departure from the royal family was made public.
His following comments confirmed as much: “We were nervous seeing the family because all the TV cameras and everybody watching at home and everybody watching in the audience.
“It’s like living through a soap opera where everybody else views you as entertainment.” It is fair to say that it was an emotional time for Harry.
