Kit Connor, best known for being the star of Heartstopper, has responded after accusations that he was queerbaiting.
Kit Connor Comes Out As Bi After Being Accused Of Queerbaiting
Queerbaiting is defined as the notion of making an attempt to take advantage of the LGBTQ+ community by pandering to their audience without actually having a real representation of that said group.
And after Kit had been branded by this claim, he felt he had no alternative but to come out and reveal his sexuality. In the process of doing so, he made it absolutely clear in no uncertain terms that he was bisexual.
In a post to his fans on Twitter, he said: “Back for a minute. I’m bi. Congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. I think some of you missed the point of the show. Bye.”
This return to Twitter arrived on the back end of the star leaving the platform last month after he was accused of queer-baiting. And at the time, he made it clear that he had become a bit ‘bored’ by the social media platform.
After all, this was understandable if he was facing an identity crisis of having to combat things that were not necessarily true about him, as well as having to consider whether he wanted to come out publicly.
But now that he has done so, the fans on social media had a lot to say about the matter. A significant proportion of the fan base came out to show their support for Kit on the grounds that he must have had to go through a lot. Meanwhile, others wished him the best with his life moving forward.
Alice Oseman, who happens to be the creator of Heartstopper, had this to say: “I truly don’t understand how people can watch Heartstopper and then gleefully spend their time speculating about sexualities and judging based on stereotypes.
“I hope all those people are embarrassed as FUCK. Kit you are amazing.” So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
