Columbarium is a new project honoring late soap writer Claire Labine. Reading a bit of her story and the plot of the project, we can saw this is going to be quite a tale. Let’s take a look at who this writer was, as well as the project that will honor her.
Columbarium honors soap great
First off, the Columbarium project is about Claire Labine and a particular moment in her life. We don’t really know this writer well, but looking up her resumé, we really wish we had. She’s won a ton of awards for her writing on ‘General Hospital’, One Life to Live, Ryan’s Hope, and more. It’s a long, great career that also included an unrealized dream.
It seems the writer had a GH spin-off idea that she really wanted to get on-air. She even turned down a job later on in her effort to bring Heart and Soul (later called Union Place) to life. The story was going to focus of two families in the entertainment world who were of different races. We’re curious to see what characters might have been used to bring this one to life. Unfortunately for Labine, they chose to go with Port Charles instead. We also found it interesting she was a co-writer on Robin’s Diary as well.
Columbarium and last wishes
The plot of Columbarium will focus on the end of Labine’s life. It seems she had a very unusual request toward the end. She apparently wanted her grandsons, Nicholas Mancusi and Roger Mancusi to steal her pets’ ashes to they can be spread alongside her. The really crazy part? They had to steal them from their Grandfather while keeping it a secret from the rest of the family.
The short film will follow their mission as well as examine a bit of the relationships in the family. With Roger himself directing, we’re sure this is going to be a faithful telling of Nicholas’ short story. Production will begin soon, so there is no word yet on when the project will reach viewers. So, who will be in the project?
Columbarium stars…
The cast will include former soap star and Star Trek actress Kate Mulgrew in the lead, along with Molly Ringwald. Fans today will know her role on Riverdale, but we know her from her brief stint of Facts of Life, the ‘80s John Hughes Films, and her TV movie about AIDS. Whether Ringwald will play the brothers’ mother or a younger version of Mulgrew’s character is unknown, the reports describe them as leads in the project.
