Studio3 tech’s Order of Fate is a dungeon crawler that can be played offline. If you dig fantasy dungeon crawler RPGs but want something that isn’t going to be a time sink, this might be one to download.
Order of Fate
Off the bat, once you clear the first ten dungeons, the backstory of Order of Fate becomes tertiary. I’ve been enjoying the game for some weeks now and I couldn’t tell you why I’m in this dungeon at all.
I can tell you that even though the game is promoted as a roguelike dungeon crawler, it’s actually just a dungeon crawler. This game is too kind to boot you down to level one with nothing or force you to restart with a new character.
The core of OoF is advancing through the dungeon while enhancing and upgrading your gear. Crafting in the game is easy and actually fun while combat and crawling are both easy in execution.
When you advance through floors in this game, you know you’re making progress. Not only that but it’s an RPG that throws a ramping challenge at you without hitting you with a frustrating difficulty wall that requires a ton of grinding.
That’s good because grinding in this game is tolerable but if it was really required to make progress, it would just blow as the dungeon floors aren’t exactly wow-worthy.
You’re not going to go “Hey, I’d like to revisit that floor again” here. It’s more like you might redo a previous floor to farm a few times before moving on.
Just know that when getting into OoF, you are not here to explore the world of the game: the dungeon is the world. If you’ve played dungeon crawlers or “mystery dungeon” games before then you know what you’re getting into here.
Mobile Gaming Verdict: 9/10
What a strong mobile RPG! Mobile dungeon crawlers tend to hover in the mediocre-at-best territory with only a handful being recommendable. I’d recommend Order of Fate because the ads aren’t aggressive and the game is just fun.
There’s not a lot of exposition or story here, it doesn’t take joy in the play failing constantly, and it’s not going to eat up your battery or overheat your phone. It’s just an RPG that newcomers can sink time into and veterans can play to pass the time.
