The search is on for Julian Sands, the charming and talented English actor known for his roles in films like Ocean’s Thirteen and Leaving Las Vegas. According to reports, the 65-year-old actor, who currently resides in North Hollywood, went missing while hiking up Southern California’s deadly Mount Baldy.
Search Team Continues Looking For Julian Sands
Sands’ family reported him missing on Friday, January 13th, and a search crew was sent out, but due to harsh weather conditions, they had to be pulled out on Saturday. Helicopters and drones are being used to continue the search for the actor, weather permitting. Representatives for Sands have not yet commented on the situation, but the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department has issued a warning to hikers in the area due to the severe weather conditions.

Over the last four weeks, the department’s Search and Rescue Teams have responded to 14 rescue missions on Mt Baldy and the surrounding area. Unfortunately, during these past 4 weeks, two hikers did not survive after falling and injuring themselves.
Another man, Bob Gregory from Hawthorne, has also been reported missing since Monday, while hiking in the nearby area of Crystal Lake in the San Gabriel Mountains. Police have reiterated that the weather in the mountains is “adverse and extremely dangerous” amid high winds and recent severe storms across the state. The mountain is just an hour’s drive from downtown Los Angeles and is popular with hikers, but authorities are urging the public to stay away due to the dangerous conditions.
“The snow has turned to ice, making hiking extremely dangerous,” said the sheriff’s department in its post. This is not the first time that this area has seen tragedy. Sands’ disappearance also comes just days after a woman named “the dancing hiking queen,” Crystal Paula Gonzalez-Landas, slid to her death in the area. Before the tragedy, Gonzalez-Landas posted a video on her Facebook documenting her final hiking trip.
In 2020, the remains of a 52-year-old California hiker, Sreenivas “Sree” Mokkapati, were found four months after he went up Mount Baldy. The mountain was covered in snow at the time of Mokkapati’s disappearance, and nighttime temperatures were near freezing.
A team of 126 people went out in search of Mokkapati, but their efforts were called off days later due to the death of a search and rescue team member. We hope that Julian Sands is found safe and sound, and we remind our readers to be cautious and aware of the weather conditions before embarking on any hikes.
